This was originally meant to be a printed guide to the farmers’ market in downtown Kent, OH, but the market is growing at such an exponential rate, we would have to update and print a new version every week! So a blog it is…
I’m Kelly Ferry, a writer, graphic designer, budding urban homesteader, and Kent resident. I love the Haymaker Market and it thrills my heart to bursting to see how much it has grown since the 2004 season when I sold organic, heirloom veggies and baked goods, from my market garden. I hope to set up a table again next season, but we gave up the acreage to move into Kent, and I’m still trying to establish productive garden beds with full sun — a big challenge in the Tree City.
My goal with this blog is to provide information about the amazing vendors and producers who participate in the market, and to document the abundance they provide to our community every week during the season. I hope to visit as many of the farms as possible to talk to the families who grow the food we market-goers are so lucky to be able to buy, and to take a few more links out of the food chain, bringing our citizens and our producers closer together.
There are only two market days remaining in the 2008 season, but I’ll be working through the winter to get all of the vendor information on the Vendor Page, and lining up interviews with the farmers.
If there’s something you’d like to see on the market blog, drop me a line!
